It's a holiday but I still have to work. If that's one thing about working on a holiday, it's the lack of traffic and commute hang ups.
The only issue was the temperature. It was around 3°F at the house. I let the car warm up for 15 minutes before I left. The car was warm but not hot. It seemed like the engine never really got that hot.
The walk from North Station to the office was sorta brutal. I counted the steps knowing that each one was one closer to the door and warmth.

Wear Your Hat
I brought my hat this morning. I learned that my ears can't take the chill like they once did. I was not doing well on the evening walk to the station so I made sure to get that hat in my jacket and wear it even though it messed up my hair.
Other than the hat business, the commute was fairly ordinary and went smoothly. I was warmer so the whole process was better.

Check That Engine Before You Wreck That Engine
Cold one this morning and my check engine light is back on. I should really get it looked at but since it was turning on and off, I thought that maybe it would shut off again. No such luck so far. If I could go back off in March, I would appreciate that because I could get an inspection sticker.
Meh - we'll see. I am probably endangering myself and everyone around me. Happy New Year.

But Ice Slows Me Down
It took me a long time to get to work today. A long time. There was ice on the roads...I am not sure if there was ice on all roads, but the ones I drove had ice everywhere.
People drove very slow. School buses made things slower. If you tried to be nice for someone and stop to let them into traffic, you skidded.
Not fun. Longest trip (to this job) ever.

New England Weathered
Was it just as cold as it was yesterday? I walked outside and I was imagining that it would be just like yesterday but I was pleasantly surprised that it was not as cold. Maybe I am just used to it.
The car started up with no problem, but it took some time to warm up.
The traffic was light today. The trip went well. I was happy to get to work without any problems.

I Saw The Bird
Not sure why, but I saw a middle finger from one of my fellow drivers this morning. I don’t think it was meant for me…but it could have been.
It happened at the Drum Hill Intersection…formally the Drum Hill rotary.
I was waiting at a red light and there was a woman behind me. I think that this guy was trying to get around us. Now, I didn’t move…so I am guessing his beef was with the woman behind me…but I heard a horn blast and then a middle finger pressed against a window.
Good morning to you too.
Tried to get it under 30 minutes today…not quite.

No Shaking Today
It must have been warmer today. The fact that the wind wasn't howling was my first tip. The second indication was nobody entered the Orange Line visibly shaking. Yesterday, there was a woman who stood in front of me who was so cold that her body was convulsing (at least that's why I think she was convulsing) even after the doors closed and we pulled away from Wellington.

Frozen Doors
Sometimes it's just cold. It's been colder...I've experienced colder...but there's no denying that this morning was unpleasant.
When we got to Malden Station, a few of the bus passengers were waiting to exit the rear bus door. The green lights came on but the doors didn't open. The crowd began to shout "Rear Door!" to alert the bus driver to open them for us. I think the crowd was confused.
The driver had indeed taken action to open the doors (as was indicated by the illuminated green lights), but the doors were stuck..maybe frozen shut.
The woman who was in the lead position must have never encountered frozen doors and she kept shouting at the bus driver. Eventually the crowd pushed against the doors and forced them open.
No door nor human was hurt in the stampede.

Feared for my life: If I was out in the cold any longer, I would have lost an ear or two.

It was cold. Very cold...but I caught some breaks. First, the bus showed up pretty close to on time. Then I didn't have to wait on the T platform at all because the train was in the station when I arrived and I was able to jump on before the doors closed.
I was able to cross the street without having to wait an entire light cycle.
All of these things add up.

------------------------------
The only thing that was annoying today was the weather. The calendar says Spring, but the wind and temperature says late November. I know thousands of other people in this area have commented about this topic, but I think it's about time we had some warmer weather.
Hey Mother Nature, just passing that idea by ya. Let it sit with you a while. Get back to me when you have had some time to process it. Maybe we can come to an agreement.
On the bus, there were two women who were provided color commentary for the bus ride. When they saw people scrambling to get to the bus stop, one of the said, "Ooooop, we got a runner!" When a kid tried to get away with paying 30 cents instead of 60, the other one said "He does this every time!"
It was like watching a DVD with the audio commentary turned on.

Guy got on the bus, and had a problem with his Charlie Ticket...he didn't have enough money...and he held up the bus a bit. I felt bad for him. He became what irked him most about riding the bus.

I feel 80 percent better than I did yesterday. Don't ask me how I quantified my physical health....it's a long, complicated process.
Peeps on the TV were blabbing and blabbing about the cold temperatures, but I was underwhelmed when I walked out to my car this morning. Yes, I had a sense that there was a stillness to the world as if everything was frozen solid and couldn't move...and the car hestitated a bit before starting...but it was certainly tolerable.
This is what winter is supposed to be like.
